Welcome to Miss Haley’s 1st Grade Classroom! I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break! I am eager for the students to return for we have lots more to learn. When we return we will be learning about weather and the life cycle of plants and animals in Science, the seven continents and maps in Social Science, more addition and subtraction, and comparing numbers in Math, and lots of phonics (letter sounds and blending them together). Please remind your child to read everynight and sign their reading log. On the back of your child’s homework folder is a list of all the words that your child needs to know by the end of first grade. Please choose a few words a week and work with your child on reading and writing them. Some fun ways are: spelling them in a tray with salt, spell them with play dough, sidewalk chalk, paint, ink stamps, and etc. Please let me know if you have any wonderful ideas that have been successful for you. I am excited to be working along side with you in your child’s first grade year.
